Definitions for non-Nerds

Back to the Future: A 1985 film starring Christopher Lloyd as Doctor Emmett Brown and Michael Fox as Marty McFly. Doc Brown invents a time machine and through twisted events, Marty is transported back to 1955 where he has to help his parents meet, or his timeline will forever be erased. This film was followed by two additional parts, Back to the Future Parts II and III.

Theory of Relativity: Basically it says the closer something travels to the speed of light, the slower time moves for them. For example, I travel at the speed of light for two days my time, when I get back, years have passed. This theory is accredited to Albert Einstein.

Firefly: A short lived 2002 television show on Fox starring Nathan Fillion and others. It has gained a cult following, fans preferring to be called "flans" or "Browncoats" (after the name of the righteous rebels in the television show). Here's how it is: The Earth got used up, so we moved out and terraformed a whole new galaxy of Earths. Some rich and flush with the new technologies, some not so much. The Central Planets, thems formed the Alliance, waged war to bring everyone under their rule; a few idiots tried to fight it, among them myself. I'm Malcolm Reynolds (Nathan Fillion), captain of Serenity. She's a transport ship; Firefly class. Got a good crew: fighters, pilot, mechanic. We even picked up a preacher for some reason, and a bona fide companion. There's a doctor, too, took his genius sister outta some Alliance camp, so they're keepin' a low profile. You understand. You got a job, we can do it, don't much care what it is.

Biotechnology: Biological engineering at a cellular level. Think GATTACA. And Norman Borlaug.

GATTACA: A 1998 film starring Ethan Hawke as Vincent Freeman, a natural born in a dystopia where the newest form of segregation is genetic engineering. Vincent masquerades as a person he is not in order to reach his lifelong goal: to go into space. The scary part about this film is that it is not too unlikely of a future for us.

Star Wars: If you actually are reading this for information, get off my blog. GO. Now. Seriously. Close the window or the tab, get some culture into your worthless, boring life, then come back when you can tell me your opinion on who shot first. Han did, by the way. I mean, just, really. Star Wars.
